Green, Blue, Red? Smoothies Are Not Your Average Cleanse! + Recipe & Mono Meals

You probably didn’t know that those colorful smoothies that you’ve been having (eating, drinking??) can be used as a cleanse. Yup, it’s true! And I can tell you from personal experience that they are some of the most enjoyable cleanses EVER! Smoothies are amazing for cleansing for a few reasons. First and foremost, because you are getting a pre-digested boost of all-natural fiber into your system that will move things along quite nicely! This is the BEST cleanse in terms of digestion, if your problem with your plumbing is due to poor fiber intake in the forms of fruits and vegetables. The fact that everything is pre-digested is giving your stomach much less to do. Andddd the fact that it is so absolutely delicious! The variety of tastes and even texture of the different types of fruits all mixed together really make your tongue want to sing a Calogero song (French joke! – look him up, he’s awesome!). What I get asked a lot about smoothies is what is the best recipe base? This is one of my favorites! Customizable Green Smoothie Base 1 banana 1 cup of berries (any type, not dehydrated like goji) 1 cup of sweet fruit (mango and/or pineapple are my favorites) 1 packed cup of your favorite greens (spinach, chard, kale!) water to desired consistency Let me break this recipe down real quick so you understand my logic. I always add bananas to my smoothies for sweetness. You want to make sure that all of your fruit are ripe before eating them so that you get the most sweetness and nutrition. Juice Cleansing is All the Rage: But Are You Doing it Right?

Juice Cleansing is all the rage for sure, especially in NYC. You have the Organic Avenue Cleanse, the Juice Press Cleanse, The Blue Print Cleanse, The Squeeze Cleanse…honestly, there are so many that I can’t keep up! Why this sudden surge? Because people are discovering more and more the benefits of doing a cleanse, and they know that the juice cleanse will get them the most benefits, the fastest. Still, you can get even more benefits if you do it the gentle way. Is it safe? Plutôt (rather) safe. You have to be gentle with yourself, though. If you’ve never tried a cleanse before and your diet is very bad, or you are extremely overweight, or have a health condition, you should check in and talk to a qualified health practitioner to see if this would put you at risk. You want to make sure that the cleanse is helping your body, not putting under more stress than it is already. Most of the time, it’s totally ok for you to move ahead, but when you do you have to really keep up with the guidelines to get the best results. Meaning… Ease into the cleanse Get plenty of rest Practice abundant self care Let the emotions flow out of you safely Ease out of the cleanse* There are others, but these are the main ones. Time for Spring Cleansing…Your Way! Here’s How To Get Started!

Ok, I will admit, I am a little obsessed with cleansing. Cleansing my body and my home (of clutter). I love it because it creates so much space for good things to come in. It is said that “The Universe Hates a Vacum”, and I’ve found it to be true. When you cleanse your body of toxins and addictions and residue from years long past, you create the possibility to have a body you love, that is healthy, and that does whatever you want it to do. Same goes for cleaning your home. I have to tell you, this is one of the best tips I’ve come across to clear out clutter and stress from your mind. Sometimes we are weighed down by the THINGS we have, and we don’t even know it. Donating things you KNOW you will not use and creating space for things you actually will use and want, is a perfect way to tell the universe that you are ready for them.   Spring is definitely the perfect time to get to move all of this extra “stuff” out of your life. Use the extra sunshine and smell of roses to inspire you into action. Just imagine, when you’re done, your body and home will reflect the lightness that you want to feel going into Summer. Yupee! Spirulina, Pears, Mangoes? It All Makes for 1 Delish Smoothie!

Just a few minutes ago I got a hit of the hungers…and…I was also in the middle of putting together my next video series so I didn’t want to cut into the creative genius (hehe) to take time to make myself a full meal. When this happens, which I must admit is quite often, I throw a bunch of things into my beautiful blender and make a smoothie! Smoothies are some of my favorite meals. They are fast, they are simple, and they are freaking yummy! And with the right ingredients, you can make them super nutritious and dense enough to keep you super satisfied until your next meal! Check this recipe out! I call it… Mellow Green Paradise Ingredients: 1/2 Banana 2 Dates 1 Pear – small 1 Mango Fresh Ginger, to taste A hand full of Greens 1/2t-1t Spirulina, to taste 1 Cup of Coconut Milk Water, to desired consistency Instructions: Blend to mellow sweet perfection! I gotta tell ya, you can make smoothies with almost anything that you have laying around. Sometimes I even surprise myself how good they taste. After years of relying on my trusty blender to produce miracles, I have found I have an act for balancing out tastes to create some really awesome concoctions! And you can too! Here is how I constructed this one: Bananas are a must, most of the time. They are creamy, they are sweet, and they fill you up really good. Sometimes if you’ve gone hungry after a smoothie almost right away, it’s because it wasn’t dense enough. Bananas are an all natural, healthy way to add some substance without resorting to powders or oils.
